We Are His Beloved

Hudson Taylor explains the “Song of Solomon” in his book, “Intimacy with Jesus”. His explanation of chapter 6:3, one of my favorite verses, is as follows. “The expression, I am My Lover’s and My Lover is mine, is similar to one found in the second chapter, ‘My Lover is mine and I am His; but with a noteworthy difference. In chapter 2, her first thought of Christ was of her claim on Him. His claim on her was secondary. Now she thinks first of His claim, and only afterwards mentions her own. We see a further development of grace in chapter 7, verse 10, where the bride loses sight of her claim altogether. ‘I belong to My Lover, and His desire is for me.’ (7:19)….The section (Chapter 6) closes with intimacy fully restored. The bride has been reinstated and openly acknowledged by the bridegroom as his own companion and friend. The painful experience the bride passed through has been replaced with lasting good. We see no further indication of interrupted intimacy; in the remaining sections there is only joy and fruitfulness.”
