Frank Cooper from Sand Springs, Oklahoma, says he had always been a taker. But 20 years ago he left a lucrative legal career to teach high school at a 50% pay cut. Frank is simply keeping a promise; the one he made to his father who was on his deathbed. “I promise you, Daddy, the next time you see me I’ll have done something to make you proud.” So year after year, he writes KYP, “Keep Your Promise” on the chalkboard. Many of his students increase their college entrance exam score by 30% and 40%. As the students leave his classroom, he always tells them this. “You guys are important, I love you, have a great day, and remember, the joy of life is ….;” they respond as one, “the journey”. This story touched me so because I taught grade school years ago. I, too, loved those kids, and I pray by the grace of God, that their lives were also changed.
