This past weekend I saw the Christian movie, “Amazing Grace”, which was aired on TV on TBN, which was very interesting, as well as entertaining. It was about the life of William Wilberforce, who was one of Britain’s great social reformers. For over 25 years he tirelessly fought against slave trade, and just 3 days before his death in 1833, Parliament passed the Slavery Abolition Act. He had a conversion experience in 1784 and became a committed Christian for the rest of his life. John Newton who wrote “Amazing Grace” encouraged him to stay in politics and work for social reform while continuing to lead a religious life. Wilberforce’s whole life was characterized by perseverance and his indomitable joy in Christ.
